be WHO YOU are

I want to start off by saying I AM NOT A BLOGGER! I just want to put this out there in case someone who really needs to here this does.

I am just sooooo sick and tired of the internet sometimes, especially the social media websites. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of pros about the internet, and social media websites, but that also means there are a lot of cons to it too. The one in particular that really bugs me is the "BE WHO YOU ARE" statements. They are all over the internet. Some people might call it the "hipster culture." If you don't know what I am talking about let me give you some clear examples: On a lot of the popular social media sites there are pictures, or quotes, that say, "Be who you are." " Be comfortable in your own skin." and then they show some cute girl, or elephant doing some cute little thing, or wearing something goofy and smiling.

Now, that's not the part that irritates me. The part that irritates me is that it is sooooo hypocritical. For an example, a friend of mine recommended this cool website to me and she said it was totally unique and my type of thing, so naturally, I had to check it out! I went onto the website, and made an account, and scrolled around. The first stuff I saw were those "be who you are" types pictures with the flowers and absolutely gorgeous models doing cute and funny faces, and then I started to see the stereotypical relationship photos that honestly, are very suggestive, and impractical, and I kept on scrolling, these thoughts started to pop into my mind, " What if I am supposed to be looking this way?" " Am I supposed to have a boyfriend that look as perfect as that guy?" "Oh, look at the legs on that girl, they are sooooo skinny, I wish I had legs like that!" Slowly, but surely these thought start to erode into me as I was passing the "You are perfect just the way you are!" ,and finally I just stopped looking at the website.

I was thinking about it a little later and wondering, "Is this what our culture has become? Sites full of hypocritical and suggestive material that make you long for more?" The answer is yes, but how I have seen people handle it is wrong. WE need to be the change, not the internet. People, those websites are fakes and phonies. I bet if you talk, or even see one of those actual airbrushed models, you would be surprised. I am pretty sure their life isn't half as perfect as that picture of them is making them out to be, and those pictures that say, "Be who you are.", look at the in a different way, " be WHO YOU are." Not, what your friend is, not the model, or elephant on the picture, be the person that God created you to be, the one the world needs you to be. If you start to grasp that you will realize how much that person that you are supposed to be is, better than any model, in a fake picture wants you to be. Be YOUR own version of hipster. I know this isn't a perfect way of putting my message out there, but it's MY way, and now it's time for us to hear YOURS.

If you want help, there's this great book that helped me understand it a lot, that I would recommend reading,  it's actually really cool and vintage, and sometimes even poetic and adventurous! It's called the Bible! Here's a verse to google: Psalms 139: 14-16 (Another good one is 1 Timothy 4:4)
